Professional Story

Dawn began her career in the Advertising and Marketing department of an import automotive company. It didn’t take long for Dawn’s computer proficiency, customer analysis and communication skills to land her in the Strategic Planning arm of the organization, pushing the envelope of marketing business intelligence by applying Geographic Information Systems to solve business questions.

This was the beginning of what has emerged as a pattern of tech innovator, evangelist and connector.

After her experience as a “power user” of customer segmentation software drew the attention of an LA ad agency ($140 million in billings), Dawn joined their team as Associate Director of Strategic Planning. Innovative customer analysis, identifying geographic clusters of customer look-alikes and her new media understanding led to a strategic advantage for the agency’s mostly retail clients.

From the ad agency life, Dawn took a position at the Los Angeles Times as Database Marketing manager. Her dual background of ad agency and client-side marketing worked well to create innovative database products to offer the LA Times’ advertisers. She managed a department of five, with the Database Marketing and Advertiser Mapping Teams reporting to her.

At this point, the siren call of internet startups took a hold and Dawn joined an entrepreneurial division of Money Mailer, Inc. called H.O.T! Coupons, one of the earliest suppliers of geographically based coupons for internet consumers. From there Dawn joined some of the same team as they launched to produce the web’s first auction site for remnant (unsold) advertising space.

Dawn’s professional career story took a hiatus as she stepped back from the travel, innovation and long hours to pursue an even tougher job of being a full-time mother. Part-time consulting engagements kept her presentation, analysis and communication skills sharp, but eventually she chose to commit to being home until her youngest entered Kindergarten.

That day came soon enough and Dawn found the Marketing, strategic planning, customer relationship management and networking skills still functioned. She was hired as Director of Marketing for a Business-to-Business software firm, 360Hubs where she created the Communication Platform and served as the company’s chief story-teller in the online space.

Dawn works now as a volunteer Evangelist, Event Manager and Community Manager for theideacamp. She also is active in the LA Tech community and passes along her social media expertise at any chance she can. She also uses her passion for social media to affect change, specifically in combatting human trafficking. Dawn has been married to Dave for 22 years and has three children, ages 11, 9 and 6.
